who we are

Campus Church is a church that gathers next to the campus of the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.

We aim to be a growing community of Christian believers, who take the message of Jesus into our lives and into our world.  We meet together to understand God’s Word and reflect on its implications for us together.

We are a university church – so we aim to speak to the issues raised by our context.  This means we’re committed to seeking adult answers to adult questions.  We encourage questioning, knowing that this is God’s world and that he isn’t taken aback by our questions.  Yet we do it all with an awareness that the ‘fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom’

We are a missional church – our particular mission is to serve the campus community with the news of Jesus Christ.  That means we’re not just a gathering of ‘people like us’ – we’re gathered for a mission to proclaim Christ crucified and raised to our campus community.  All our meetings reflect that commitment in a range of ways.

We’re a sending church – we seek to flood the world with godly and passionate graduates, well trained to communicate the gospel to a world in great need of Christ.  We see university life as a unique window of opportunity to train the next generation of gospel workers – both in the church and in the marketplace.

Most importantly, we’re a Christian church.  Our specific context just explains some of what we do.  As a church of Jesus Christ we welcome all – student or not, Christian or not.  We have people young and old, students and workers, locals and internationals who share our common commitment to being disciples of Jesus Christ.

Note: Campus Church is not an activity of the University of Canterbury or the UC Students Association.
